HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan 
3Chicago (RHAMC), an Illinois Not-For-Profit corporation, has 
4been awarded the prestigious Edward R. Loveland Memorial Award 
5in 2011 from the American College of Physicians; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The award is given yearly to one individual or 
7organization in the entire United States for a distinguished 
8contribution in the health field; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Respiratory Health Association was recognized for 
10its long history of  community lung health work in metropolitan 
11Chicago and Illinois; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Respiratory Health Association was commended 
13specifically  for its advocacy work to pass smoke-free laws in 
14Illinois, its work to develop a State plan for addressing COPD 
15in Illinois, and its Fight Asthma Now program for 
16schoolchildren, which has been used to teach more than 2,500 
17Chicago Public School children to manage their asthma; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Respiratory Health Association addresses asthma, 
19COPD, lung cancer, tobacco control, and air quality with a 
20comprehensive approach involving research, education, and 
21advocacy activities;
and

1    WHEREAS, Respiratory Health Association has formed 
2partnerships with schools, childcare providers, community 
3organizations, and local businesses throughout the State of 
4Illinois to help succeed in achieving its mission; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, With this honor, Respiratory Health Association 
6joins the ranks of past recipients of the Edward R. Loveland 
7Memorial Award, including the Centers for Disease Control, 
8National Institutes of Health, and the Robert Wood Johnson 
9Foundation; therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
12we commend Respiratory Health Association on this award and its  
13continued leadership in addressing lung health through 
14research, education, and advocacy; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to Respiratory Health Association as a symbol of our 
17respect and esteem.
