HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans has been 
3established in Illinois as an Illinois not-for-profit 
4corporation and has been designated a 501(c)(3) charitable 
5organization by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, That organization's mission is to provide 
7transitional services to homeless and disabled veterans of the 
8United States military so that they can return to useful and 
9productive lives; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, There is an obvious and growing need for such a 
11facility for veterans now returning from the conflicts in Iraq  
12and Afghanistan; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans has been 
14providing essential services to veterans at its location in 
15Wheaton, Illinois since January of 2007; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House recognize that 
17the State has a responsibility to its homeless and disabled 
18citizens who have served, and will be serving, in the United 
19States military services; therefore, be it
  
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
2we urge the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs to 
3continue to provide technical and financial services to the 
4Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans so that the shelter may 
5continue to provide essential services to homeless veterans of 
6the United States military; and be it further
  
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8delivered to the Director of the Illinois Department of 
9Veterans' Affairs.
