| 2 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Steven Simons, Illinois State |
| 3 | | Police District 6, Pontiac, retired on December 31, 2010, after |
| 4 | | a total of 35 years of exemplary State service to the citizens |
| 5 | | of Illinois; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Simons received his bachelor's |
| 7 | | degree from Eastern Illinois University and began his service |
| 8 | | in 1975, serving as an educator and basketball coach at the |
| 9 | | Charleston School District, dedicating 22 years to educational |
| 10 | | endeavors; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Simons began his career with the |
| 12 | | Illinois State Police in 1997 as a Trooper in District 21, |
| 13 | | where he served with pride and dignity, initiating many quality |
| 14 | | criminal and traffic arrests; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Simons continued to serve |
| 16 | | Illinois citizens by transferring to District 6 in 1999, |
| 17 | | serving in patrol; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Simons served as a Regional Staff |
| 19 | | Officer in 2000; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Simons returned to District 6 |

| 1 | | serving as an evidence custodian and was subsequently promoted |
| 2 | | to sergeant; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Simons then oversaw the |
| 4 | | multi-million dollar construction of the new District 6 |
| 5 | | facility; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Simons was promoted to field |
| 7 | | Master Sergeant in 2006, serving as a Platoon Supervisor, which |
| 8 | | placed him on all three shifts guiding the development of |
| 9 | | officers and overseeing many operational incidents; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Simons has made innumerable |
| 11 | | positive contributions while serving with the Illinois State |
| 12 | | Police, among them: Control and Arrest Tactics instructor, |
| 13 | | Physical Fitness Monitor, Crash Review Board member, ISP |
| 14 | | Academy assessor, ISP Academy Curriculum Committee member, |
| 15 | | Field Training Officer, yearbook coordinator, and extensive |
| 16 | | ISP Heritage Foundation work; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Simons has received several |
| 18 | | distinguished recognitions and awards for his dedication as |
| 19 | | both an Illinois High School Association basketball coach and |
| 20 | | member of the Illinois State Police, including the Illinois |
| 21 | | Basketball Coaches Association Lifetime Achievement Award, ISP |
| 22 | | Unit Citation for his response to the Bourbonnais Amtrak |

| 1 | | derailment incident in 1999, and he was the ISP District 6 |
| 2 | | Officer of the Year nominee in 2004; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Simons has served his community, |
| 4 | | his profession, and the State of Illinois with intelligence, |
| 5 | | dedication, and the highest integrity; therefore, be it
|
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 7 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 8 | | we congratulate Master Sergeant Steve Simons on his retirement |
| 9 | | and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it |
| 10 | | further
|
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 12 | | presented to Master Sergeant Steve Simons as a symbol of our |
| 13 | | respect and esteem.
