HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the 
4Galena Territory Association on the occasion of the Galena 
5Territory being designated as a Certified Community Wildlife 
6Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The Galena Territory is a 6,800-acre residential, 
8recreation, and resort community in Jo Daviess County; the 
9Territory includes 1,750 acres of common property, referred to 
10as Greenspace, the 225-acre Lake Galena, and 23 miles of 
11wilderness trails; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, The Galena Territory Association has teamed up 
13with the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation to host educational 
14events for county residents and has provided educational 
15programs on Birds of The Territory, Tree Identification, 
16Invasive Plants, and more; the Association hosts several 
17community projects, including "Vulture Day", a twice-annual 
18roadside and lakeshore cleanup event; the Association has also 
19worked to control erosion along  creek banks and ravines and has 
20initiated numerous ecological restoration projects throughout 
21The Territory, improving the habitat of countless insects, 
22birds, reptiles, and mammals; and

1    WHEREAS, The Galena Territory Association registered its 
2intent to become a Certified Community Wildlife Habitat with 
3the National Wildlife Federation in 2009; after completing the 
4requirements and documentation in August of 2010, the Galena 
5Territory became the 46th Community Wildlife Habitat; the 
6Galena Territory is the first such Community in Illinois, 
7Wisconsin, or Iowa; and

  
 
8    WHEREAS, The members of The Galena Territory Association 
9serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the 
10people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we congratulate the members of the Galena Territory Association 
14on the occasion of the Galena Territory being designated as a 
15Certified Community Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife 
16Federation and wish them continued success and happiness in the 
17future; and be it further
  
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19presented to the Galena Territory Association as a symbol of 
20our esteem and respect.
