HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has 36 Community Action Agencies that provide services in all 102 counties; and

WHEREAS, Illinois Community Action Agencies employ more than 5,000 full-time staff; and

WHEREAS, Illinois Community Action Agencies utilize the services of more than 18,000 volunteers, totaling 1.3 million hours of service; and

WHEREAS, Since 1981, the Community Services Block Grant remains the foundation funding for Community Action Agencies; and

WHEREAS, For every Community Services Block Grant dollar invested, the Illinois Community Action Network leveraged $5.36 from State, local, and private sources; and

WHEREAS, In 2009, the Community Services Block Grant, through the Illinois Community Action Network, helped nearly 800,000 individuals move toward economic security; and

WHEREAS, In 2010, the Community Services Block Grant created and retained 2,235 jobs through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act; and

WHEREAS, The Community Services Block Grant provides a vital lifeline for Illinoisans in need of assistance for food, housing, job training, medical assistance, and emergency services; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we support the positive impact of the Community Services Block Grant in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we oppose any action by Congress or the President to reduce Community Services Block Grant funding; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be given to the President pro tempore and Secretary of the United States Senate, the Speaker and Clerk of the United States House of Representatives, each member of the Illinois congressional delegation, and the President of the United States.
