| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the congregation, |
| 4 | | staff, and Reverend Joseph Tito of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in |
| 5 | | Albany Park on the 100th anniversary of the church; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, In 1911, a group of lay people petitioned |
| 7 | | Archbishop Quigley to locate a Catholic church in Albany Park; |
| 8 | | on May 18, 1911, Archbishop Quigley asked The Reverend H.P. |
| 9 | | Coughlin to consider the territory that would later become Our |
| 10 | | Lady of Mercy Parish; on June 1, 1911, Reverend Coughlin became |
| 11 | | the Pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Parish; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The first Eucharist was held at Patrick Henry |
| 13 | | School on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 1911; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The event which was considered the testament to |
| 15 | | the Parish's livelihood was the baptism of Esther Traynor on |
| 16 | | June 13, 1911; the baptism was celebrated at the Traynor home |
| 17 | | because no church had been built at the time; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, On December 3, 1911, the congregation celebrated |
| 19 | | their first Mass in the new church; since that time, three |
| 20 | | churches have been erected to reflect the growth of the |
| 21 | | congregation; in addition, a rectory, a convent, and other |
