| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the patrons, |
| 4 | | owners, musicians, artisans, and thespians of the Palette, |
| 5 | | Masque and Lyre Theater in Antioch as they celebrate the 50th |
| 6 | | anniversary of the Theater; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The Palette, Masque and Lyre Theater was |
| 8 | | established in the early 1960s by people interested in |
| 9 | | producing plays, art works, and musicals; early members that |
| 10 | | are still active include Dee Baum, Aileen and Paul Biel, Art |
| 11 | | Doty, Hank Apostal, Shirley Jensen, and Betty and Ken Smouse; |
| 12 | | and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, The group originally rented an empty theater |
| 14 | | building on Main Street in Antioch; the Crystal Palace had been |
| 15 | | used as a playhouse, burlesque hall, and movie theater; early |
| 16 | | productions by P.M. & L. Theater were put on for local PTAs, |
| 17 | | churches, and other organizations with proceeds going for |
| 18 | | building upkeep and operating expenses; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, In 1983, the group was given the chance to |
| 20 | | purchase the building, and through donated money, time, labor, |
| 21 | | and skill the P.M. & L. Theater had a home of its own; and
