| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Lourdes F. Díaz was born on the 13th day of | ||||||
| 3 | February in the year nineteen hundred and sixty one in the | ||||||
| 4 | great City of Chicago, being as such a proud daughter of our | ||||||
| 5 | State's largest metropolis; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Díaz's parents, Mr. Frank Diaz and Mrs. | ||||||
| 7 | Aurelia Claudio, emigrated to the United States from the island | ||||||
| 8 | of Puerto Rico during the 1950s, settled in Chicago, married | ||||||
| 9 | and had four children in the city's ethnic milieu, both in | ||||||
| 10 | Pilsen as well as the Northeast Side; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The Diaz-Claudio family are fine, long-standing | ||||||
| 12 | citizens of our State and have contributed to our common | ||||||
| 13 | well-being with their hard work and outstanding citizenship, | ||||||
| 14 | embodying and enriching one of the great pillars of our | ||||||
| 15 | country: the coming together of people from every corner of the | ||||||
| 16 | planet into a single, thriving America; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Lourdes Diaz has carried on that tradition in | ||||||
| 18 | her own life and work, having graduated with distinction from | ||||||
| 19 | Holy Family High School and Loyola University in Chicago, | ||||||
| 20 | moving on to a successful career in banking, real estate, and | ||||||
| 21 | diversity in several cities and companies across the United | ||||||
| 22 | States, and building her own family of four with husband Juan | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | Carlos Diaz, son Franco, and daughter Briana; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Diaz has become known as an exemplary woman | ||||||
| 3 | and Hispanic executive, using her position in the corporate | ||||||
| 4 | world to promote and create boundless opportunities and full | ||||||
| 5 | equality for women and Hispanics in business and society; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, To achieve this high and noble objective, Mrs. | ||||||
| 7 | Diaz has joined numerous civic and business organizations and | ||||||
| 8 | has been recognized by the media for outstanding results in her | ||||||
| 9 | advocacy and her work; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, In her current capacity as Vice President of | ||||||
| 11 | Diversity Relations for the Sodexo Corporation in Washington, | ||||||
| 12 | D.C., Mrs. Diaz leads a unique, pioneering and laudable | ||||||
| 13 | outreach effort aimed at women, minority, LGBT, and other | ||||||
| 14 | minority business suppliers in the City of Chicago, as well as | ||||||
| 15 | minority and community organizations in the city, with the | ||||||
| 16 | intent of integrating them all into Sodexo's growth, and thus | ||||||
| 17 | provide opportunities for them to prosper and fulfill the true | ||||||
| 18 | calling of the American Dream; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, As she turns 50, Mrs. Diaz looks ahead to an even | ||||||
| 20 | bigger and brighter role in her endless determination to | ||||||
| 21 | achieve proportional growth and prosperity for women, | ||||||
| 22 | Hispanics, and other minorities in our great land, all the | ||||||

| 1 | while delivering significant value and results to the entities | ||||||
| 2 | in which she works, be they corporate or non-profit; therefore, | ||||||
| 3 | be it

| 4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 5 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 6 | we congratulate Mrs. Lourdes Diaz on her 50th birthday; and be | ||||||
| 7 | it further

| 8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 9 | presented to Mrs. Lourdes Diaz as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 10 | esteem.
