HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Mrs. Lourdes F. Díaz was born on the 13th day of February in the year nineteen hundred and sixty one in the great City of Chicago, being as such a proud daughter of our State's largest metropolis; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Díaz's parents, Mr. Frank Diaz and Mrs. Aurelia Claudio, emigrated to the United States from the island of Puerto Rico during the 1950s, settled in Chicago, married and had four children in the city's ethnic milieu, both in Pilsen as well as the Northeast Side; and

WHEREAS, The Diaz-Claudio family are fine, long-standing citizens of our State and have contributed to our common well-being with their hard work and outstanding citizenship, embodying and enriching one of the great pillars of our country: the coming together of people from every corner of the planet into a single, thriving America; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Lourdes Diaz has carried on that tradition in her own life and work, having graduated with distinction from Holy Family High School and Loyola University in Chicago, moving on to a successful career in banking, real estate, and diversity in several cities and companies across the United States, and building her own family of four with husband Juan Carlos Diaz, son Franco, and daughter Briana; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Diaz has become known as an exemplary woman and Hispanic executive, using her position in the corporate world to promote and create boundless opportunities and full equality for women and Hispanics in business and society; and

WHEREAS, To achieve this high and noble objective, Mrs. Diaz has joined numerous civic and business organizations and has been recognized by the media for outstanding results in her advocacy and her work; and

WHEREAS, In her current capacity as Vice President of Diversity Relations for the Sodexo Corporation in Washington, D.C., Mrs. Diaz leads a unique, pioneering and laudable outreach effort aimed at women, minority, LGBT, and other minority business suppliers in the City of Chicago, as well as minority and community organizations in the city, with the intent of integrating them all into Sodexo's growth, and thus provide opportunities for them to prosper and fulfill the true calling of the American Dream; and

WHEREAS, As she turns 50, Mrs. Diaz looks ahead to an even bigger and brighter role in her endless determination to achieve proportional growth and prosperity for women, Hispanics, and other minorities in our great land, all the while delivering significant value and results to the entities in which she works, be they corporate or non-profit; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mrs. Lourdes Diaz on her 50th birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Lourdes Diaz as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
