| 4 | | "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
| 5 | | 10-22.3g as follows:

| 6 | | (105 ILCS 5/10-22.3g new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 10-22.3g. Insurance coverage for students; |
| 8 | | catastrophic injuries. A school board in a school district |
| 9 | | maintaining grades 9 through 12 shall maintain catastrophic |
| 10 | | health insurance coverage, with up to a $25 million limit, for |
| 11 | | students who sustain an injury that results in medical expenses |
| 12 | | of $50,000 or more while participating in an athletic activity |
| 13 | | under the jurisdiction of or sponsored or controlled by the |
| 14 | | school district. The school board may require that the parents |
| 15 | | or guardians of students who participate in such athletic |
| 16 | | activities pay a portion of the cost of the insurance coverage.
