SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bruno Bartoszek of Aurora, who passed away on November 1, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek was born on February 27, 1922, in Toporow, Poland; his parents were the late Simon and Zofia Bartoszek; and

WHEREAS, In 1942, Bruno Bartoszek joined the Polish Army after he and his family were released from Siberian work camps in the Soviet Union; he served faithfully as a member of the Polish 2nd Corps, 3rd Carpathian Division under British command, seeing action in Libya, Italy, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, and Lebanon; he fought in the Battle of Monte Cassino when the Polish Army defeated the German forces in May of 1944; he was awarded several medals for his service during World War II, including the Virtuti Militari medal, the Polish equivalent to the Medal of Honor, the Army Medal (Polish), the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the Defense Medal, and the Cross of Monte Cassino Medal (Polish); after the war, he worked in the British War Office in London, England before coming to the United States in 1951; and

WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek was employed with Aurora Pump, the Burlington Northern Railroad, and subsequently retired as an agent for Prudential Insurance Company; and

WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek was a member of several local clubs and historical societies in Aurora and the surrounding communities, including the Boy Scouts of America, the Catholic Committee of the Rockford Diocese, the Waubonsee Community College Literacy Project, the Grand Army of the Republic Association, and the historical societies of Sugar Grove, Batavia, Shabbona, Kendall County, Oswego, Franklin Grove, and Grundy County; he was named Grand Marshal for Aurora's Fourth of July parade in 1996; he was also a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church; and

WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek is preceded in death by his sisters, Anna, Teofilia, and Mary, and his brothers, Frank and John; and

WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek is survived by his daughter, Annette (Rick) Lawrence, his son, Jack (Donita) Bartoszek; his grandchildren, Sarah and Stephanie Lawrence and Allen Bartoszek; his wife, Wanda; his sister, Angela Buczkiewicz; his half-brothers, Casmir and Stanley; and his numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Bruno Bartoszek; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bruno Bartoszek as an expression of our sympathy.
