SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Vergil H. Fletcher of Collinsville, who passed away on June 30, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher retired after 32 years as head basketball coach of Collinsville High School, where he led his teams to 747 victories and two State titles in 1961 and 1965; he was named Illinois National High School Coach of the Year in 1972 and was picked as one of the greatest high school coaches of the century; and

WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher was a member of the American Legion Post #365 in Collinsville, the Collinsville Noontime Lions Club, and the Knights of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher was preceded in death by his brother, Cecil, and his sisters, Helen Baker, Audra Brown, and Rose Mitchell; and

WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher was the beloved husband of Violet Fletcher; the dear son of the late John and Etta Fletcher; the loving father of Marietta (Dr. Marion) Thompson, Dr. Marlene (Dr. Joseph) Rotter, Marcia Yates, Marian (Bruce) Evans, Mike (Margie) Fletcher, and Marc (Joan) Fletcher; and the dear brother of Marian Mauzy, Ruby Kay Vozarth, and Jack Fletcher; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Vergil H. Fletcher; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Vergil Fletcher as an expression of our sympathy.
