| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
Vergil H. Fletcher of Collinsville, who |
| 4 |
| passed away on June 30, 2009; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher retired after 32 years as head |
| 6 |
| basketball coach of Collinsville High School, where he led his |
| 7 |
| teams to 747 victories and two State titles in 1961 and 1965; |
| 8 |
| he was named Illinois National High School Coach of the Year in |
| 9 |
| 1972 and was picked as one of the greatest high school coaches |
| 10 |
| of the century; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher was a member of the American |
| 12 |
| Legion Post #365 in Collinsville, the Collinsville Noontime |
| 13 |
| Lions Club, and the Knights of Columbus; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher was preceded in death by his |
| 15 |
| brother, Cecil, and his sisters, Helen Baker, Audra Brown, and |
| 16 |
| Rose Mitchell; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher was the beloved husband of Violet |
| 18 |
| Fletcher; the dear son of the late John and Etta Fletcher; the |
| 19 |
| loving father of Marietta (Dr. Marion) Thompson, Dr. Marlene |
| 20 |
| (Dr. Joseph) Rotter, Marcia Yates, Marian (Bruce) Evans, Mike |
| 21 |
| (Margie) Fletcher, and Marc (Joan) Fletcher; and the dear |
