SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ruby J. Valentine of Washington, who passed away on May 10, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Ruby Valentine was born on Dec. 26, 1929, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; her parents were Vardie and Vera (Wilson) Wilburn; she married J.C. Valentine on March 15, 1947 in Florence, Alabama; and

WHEREAS, Ruby Valentine worked at the Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria for 30 years in laundry and housekeeping, where she served as both a manager and a union steward; and

WHEREAS, Ruby Valentine was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Peoria, where she was active with the Jolly 60s group; in her later years, she attended Beverly Manor Baptist Church in Washington; and

WHEREAS, Ruby Valentine served as a precinct judge in Peoria County; and

WHEREAS, Ruby Valentine was preceded in death by her husband; her infant son; and her granddaughter, Laura Valentine; and

WHEREAS, Ruby Valentine is survived by her sons, Stan (Sandy) Valentine and Christopher (Julie) Valentine; her daughter, Linda (Tom) Abbott; her sisters, Marie Hodge, Melanie Gray, and Grace (Harold) Pugh; her brother, Ray (Ginger) Wilburn; her grandchildren, Kelly (Larry) Green, Phil (Toni) Abbott, Jason Valentine, Doug Valentine, Samantha Valentine, and Jack Valentine; her great-grandchildren, Erica Bartsch, Adam Green, Tiffany Abbott, and Cassidy Abbott; and her great-great-grandson, James Daniel Bartsch; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Ruby J. Valentine; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ruby Valentine as an expression of our sympathy.
