HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the administration 
4
and staff of the Lincoln Park Zoo on the occasion of the 
5
opening of the zoo's Nature Boardwalk and thank them for their 
6
work in their community; and
  
 
7
    WHEREAS, The Lincoln Park Zoo created the Nature Boardwalk 
8
from a dilapidated man-made pond in order to create a model 
9
urban ecosystem that will serve as an oasis both for native 
10
wildlife and for people that visit the pond; and
  
 
11
    WHEREAS, The Nature Boardwalk will provide shelter to 
12
native fish, provide shade, food, and habitat for local 
13
wildlife through 100 newly-planted trees and acres of prairie 
14
and wetland grasses and plants, and give the public maximum 
15
access to the serene environment through an estimated half-mile 
16
of boardwalk that surrounds the entire body of water; 
17
approximately 20 painted turtles will be carefully introduced 
18
to Nature Boardwalk in 2010 and surveillance programs for the 
19
black crowned night heron and other species will be introduced; 
20
the zoo will also conduct fish and wildlife surveys at the 
21
boardwalk; and

    WHEREAS, The Nature Boardwalk will also host a number of

activities for its visitors, including daily tours and talks, 
2
numerous hands-on opportunities to learn and interact with the 
3
surroundings, and new adult and family-oriented special 
4
programs, such as yoga classes and a family overnight camping 
5
program; and

    WHEREAS, The administration and staff of the Lincoln Park 
7
Zoo serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for 
8
the people of the State of Illinois and have created a new 
9
standard for conservation efforts in the State of Illinois and 
10
the world at large; therefore, be it
  
 
11
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13
congratulate the administration and staff of the Lincoln Park 
14
Zoo on the occasion of the opening of the zoo's Nature 
15
Boardwalk, thank them for the wonderful work they have 
16
performed in their community, and wish them continued success 
17
and happiness in the future; and be it further
  
 
18
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19
presented to the Lincoln Park Zoo as a symbol of our esteem and 
20
respect.
