| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the administration |
| 4 |
| and staff of the Lincoln Park Zoo on the occasion of the |
| 5 |
| opening of the zoo's Nature Boardwalk and thank them for their |
| 6 |
| work in their community; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The Lincoln Park Zoo created the Nature Boardwalk |
| 8 |
| from a dilapidated man-made pond in order to create a model |
| 9 |
| urban ecosystem that will serve as an oasis both for native |
| 10 |
| wildlife and for people that visit the pond; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, The Nature Boardwalk will provide shelter to |
| 12 |
| native fish, provide shade, food, and habitat for local |
| 13 |
| wildlife through 100 newly-planted trees and acres of prairie |
| 14 |
| and wetland grasses and plants, and give the public maximum |
| 15 |
| access to the serene environment through an estimated half-mile |
| 16 |
| of boardwalk that surrounds the entire body of water; |
| 17 |
| approximately 20 painted turtles will be carefully introduced |
| 18 |
| to Nature Boardwalk in 2010 and surveillance programs for the |
| 19 |
| black crowned night heron and other species will be introduced; |
| 20 |
| the zoo will also conduct fish and wildlife surveys at the |
| 21 |
| boardwalk; and

| WHEREAS, The Nature Boardwalk will also host a number of |
