HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, Public works services provided in communities 
3
throughout the State of Illinois are an integral part of the 
4
everyday lives of the citizens of this State; and
  
 
5
    WHEREAS, The support of an understanding and informed 
6
citizenry is vital to the efficient operation of public works 
7
systems and programs, such as water, sewers, streets and 
8
highways, public buildings, and solid waste collection; and
  
 
9
    WHEREAS, The health, safety, and comfort of communities 
10
throughout the State of Illinois greatly depends on these 
11
facilities and services; and
  
 
12
    WHEREAS, The quality and effectiveness of these 
13
facilities, as well as their planning, design, and 
14
construction, is vitally dependent upon the efforts and skill 
15
of public works officials; and
  
 
16
    WHEREAS, The efficiency of the qualified and dedicated 
17
personnel who staff public works departments is materially 
18
influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the 
19
importance of the work they perform; therefore, be it
  
 
20
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
2
designate the week of May 16-22, 2010 as Public Works Week in 
3
the State of Illinois, and ask the citizens of this State to 
4
acquaint themselves with the issues involved in providing 
5
public works and recognize the contributions made by public 
6
works officials everyday to our health, safety, comfort, and 
7
quality of life.
