HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former 
4
Elgin city councilman Mike Powers, who passed away on December 
5
7, 2009; and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, He was a longtime Elgin resident and 1975 graduate 
7
of Elgin High School, where he played basketball and football; 
8
he attended Northwestern University, where he pursued a career 
9
in marketing and advertising; and
  
 
10
    WHEREAS, He wrote a book about Elgin and his memories of 
11
growing up there, entitled: All-American Stories: Elgin Myths 
12
and Memories; and
  
 
13
    WHEREAS, He was elected to the city council in April of 
14
2007 and served for 16 months; he ran on a pro-business and a 
15
pro-economic development platform with a focus on improving 
16
city services; and
  
 
17
    WHEREAS, He loved rock and roll, especially the Rolling 
18
Stones and Jimi Hendrix; and
  
 
19
    WHEREAS, Mike Powers is survived by his mother, Dorothy; 
20
his daughters, Taylor, Maggie, and Lauren; his brothers, David,

Martin, Jerry, and Craig; and his sister, Carole Akemann;

therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
5
mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Mike 
6
Powers; and be it further
  
 
7
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8
presented to the family of Mike Powers as a symbol of our 
9
sincere sympathy.
