| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the lives of | ||||||
| 4 | citizens of the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Father Jack Farry, Pastor of Saint Andrew Parish | ||||||
| 6 | in Chicago, made plans to retire on June 6, 2009; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Father Farry attended Saint Sabina Grammar School | ||||||
| 8 | in Chicago, Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago, Brooklyn | ||||||
| 9 | Preparatory Seminary in New York, St. Mary of the Lake Seminary | ||||||
| 10 | in Mundelein, and was ordained a priest on April 29, 1965; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Father Farry began his career at Saint Bernard | ||||||
| 12 | Parish in Englewood, where he worked until 1969 when he became | ||||||
| 13 | the Catholic Community of Englewood Coordinator, a job in which | ||||||
| 14 | he excelled; he left in 1975 to work with the Team Ministry at | ||||||
| 15 | Saint Bernard's, which was renamed Saint Benedict the African | ||||||
| 16 | in 2001; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, In 1988, Father Farry left Saint Bernard's to | ||||||
| 18 | become Pastor of Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish until 2000; | ||||||
| 19 | while serving at St. Thomas', Father Farry was also an integral | ||||||
| 20 | member of the Hyde Park Inter-Faith Council; he served as | ||||||
| 21 | Chaplain to all the local hospitals; he spearheaded | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | preservation efforts at St. Thomas', a national historic | ||||||
| 2 | landmark; he was active in the life of the students at St. | ||||||
| 3 | Thomas' and was a constant fixture in the school, teaching | ||||||
| 4 | religious life lessons to all grades; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Father Farry moved on from Saint Thomas' to become | ||||||
| 6 | Pastor at Saint Andrew Parish, where he has remained until his | ||||||
| 7 | retirement in June; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Father Farry's rhetorical and spiritual gifts | ||||||
| 9 | have always made him the celebrant of choice at funerals and | ||||||
| 10 | weddings; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Father Farry has inspired people throughout his | ||||||
| 12 | career to simply be good people, and he has shown an admirable | ||||||
| 13 | lack of bias in his preaching as he is able to reach both | ||||||
| 14 | Chicago White Sox fans on the South Side and Chicago Cubs fans | ||||||
| 15 | up North; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 17 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 18 | congratulate Father Jack Farry on his retirement and wish him | ||||||
| 19 | continued success; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Father Jack Farry as a sign of our affection, our | ||||||
