HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are saddened to  learn of the death of
Claude 
4
Smith Jr. of Herrin, who passed away on May 5, 2009; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Claude Smith Jr. was born in Pittsburg on November 
6
10, 1924; he was the son of Claude and Aliene (Walker) Smith; 
7
he married Alice Frick on June 23, 1945 in the Energy Methodist 
8
Church; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, Claude Smith Jr. was a business entrepreneur who 
10
successfully ran Herrin's South Side Lumber for many years; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, Claude Smith Jr. was a 50-year member of the 
12
Herrin Masonic Lodge and a member of the Herrin Elks and 
13
Illinois Lumber Dealers; and
 
14
    WHEREAS, Claude Smith Jr. enjoyed playing golf and his 
15
trips to Florida; he also loved a clean house and working in 
16
his yard; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, Claude Smith Jr. was preceded in death by his 
18
parents; his sister, Naomi Shaddox; his infant sister, Thelma 
19
Smith; and his cousin, F.L. Walker; and

    WHEREAS, Claude Smith Jr. is survived by his son, Kent 
2
(Terri) Smith; his grandchildren, Cecily K. Smith and Elliott 
3
J. Smith; his godson, Brandon Switzer; his niece, Cindy 
4
Schreck; his nephew, Keith Shaddox; and his several nieces, 
5
nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

 
6
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
8
mourn, along with his  family and friends, the passing of Claude 
9
Smith Jr.; and be it further

 
10
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11
presented to the family of Claude Smith Jr. as an expression of 
12
our sympathy.
