| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Asthma has reached epidemic proportions in the |
| 3 |
| United States, affecting an estimated 20 million people; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Nearly 300,000 children in the State of Illinois |
| 5 |
| suffer from asthma; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Asthma is the leading cause of childhood |
| 7 |
| hospitalizations in the State of Illinois; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Approximately 300 Illinois citizens died from |
| 9 |
| asthma-related deaths in 2004, and hundreds more die each year; |
| 10 |
| and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, This body recognizes that the health and |
| 12 |
| well-being of each and every citizen of this State is |
| 13 |
| important; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, The month of May is Asthma Awareness Month and the |
| 15 |
| date of May 5, 2009 is World Asthma Day;
therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 17 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 18 |
| proclaim May 5, 2009 as Illinois Clean Air and Asthma Awareness |
| 19 |
| Day in the State of Illinois.
