<synopsistitle></synopsistitle>
<reference>New Act</reference><aliasreference></aliasreference><SynopsisText>     Creates the Obesity Prevention Initiative Act. Provides that, within 90 days after the effective date of the Act, the Department of Public Health shall implement the Obesity Prevention Initiative.</SynopsisText><synopsistitle>House Floor Amendment No. 1</synopsistitle>
<SynopsisText>Replaces everything after the enacting clause with the bill as introduced with the following changes. Deletes the requirement that the Department implement the Obesity Prevention Initiative 90 days after the effective date of the Act. Provides instead that within 60 days after the effective date of the Act, the Department shall organize at least 6 hearings on the health effects and costs of obesity and the need to address the obesity epidemic. Sets forth provisions concerning the hearing officers. Provides that no later than February 1, 2010, the hearing officers shall provide a report on the hearings. Provides that the Department shall grant funds to one or more non-profit organizations or local public health departments to conduct a statewide education campaign. Makes other changes. <SynopsisText>Makes changes in the provisions concerning legislative findings. Provides that the purpose of the hearings on the effects of obesity shall be to (1) highlight existing State and community level initiatives, (2) identify existing plans and opportunities for action and the expansion of initiatives, (3) inform policy makers and the public about effective solutions to the problem, and (4) identify and engage stakeholders to promote action to reduce obesity, improve nutrition, and increase physical activity. Provides that the hearing officers shall include up to 3 (instead of 7) additional members of the State Board of Health, the Chair of the Chronic Disease Task Force, if appointed, and up to 3 additional members of the Chronic Disease Task Force, if appointed. Provides that the report on the hearings shall be subject to the availability of public, private, and contributed in-kind resources. Makes other changes.</SynopsisText></synopsis>
