| SENATE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, On November 13, 2008, the Chicago Transit |
| 3 |
| Authority Board voted to increase the fares for riding Chicago |
| 4 |
| Transit Authority buses and trains; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The Chicago Transit Board approved a 15 percent |
| 6 |
| fare increase to take effect on January 1, 2009; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Under the 2009 fare increase, rail and bus fares |
| 8 |
| will rise from $2 to $2.25 per ride; the fare hike will |
| 9 |
| increase a one-way elevated train trip by 50 cents; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Chicago Transit Authority officials estimate that |
| 11 |
| the fare hike will reduce the use of Chicago Transit Authority |
| 12 |
| services by 17 million rides; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Chicago Transit Authority riders depend upon |
| 14 |
| affordable public transportation to fulfill their |
| 15 |
| transportation needs; therefore, be it
|
| 16 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the Chicago |
| 18 |
| Transit Authority to repeal the 2009 fare increase and to make |
| 19 |
| its Board members and executives available to appear before the |
| 20 |
| appropriate Senate committee to explain its actions concerning |
