| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| hear of the death of
Robert Graul of Alton, who passed away on |
| 4 |
| August 31, 2007; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Robert Graul was born on September 19, 1912, in |
| 6 |
| Alton; his parents were Philip C. and Ruth P. (Jacoby) Graul; |
| 7 |
| he married Isabel C. Fundel on March 14, 1936 in Alton; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Robert Graul attended Alton schools and was a |
| 9 |
| graduate of Alton High; he received his bachelor's degree in |
| 10 |
| chemistry from Shurtleff College; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Robert Graul worked for The Telegraph newspaper |
| 12 |
| for 41 years, retiring in 1977; and he served his country |
| 13 |
| during the Second World War in the United States Coast Guard; |
| 14 |
| and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Robert Graul was a member of the Evangelical |
| 16 |
| United Church of Christ in Godfrey, where he participated as a |
| 17 |
| choir member; he was instrumental in the founding of the Alton |
| 18 |
| Museum of History and Art; he was a charter member of the Alton |
| 19 |
| Kiwanis Club; he had a passion for photography and had |
| 20 |
| documented numerous weddings and other special occasions; he |
| 21 |
| was especially proud of photographing the construction of the |

| original Lock and Dam 26 and its replacement, as well as the |
| 2 |
| demolition of the old Clark Bridge and the construction of the |
| 3 |
| new bridge; and he enjoyed woodworking and was an avid river |
| 4 |
| historian; and

| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Robert Graul was preceded in death by his wife, |
| 6 |
| Isabel; his parents; and his brother, William Graul; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Robert Graul is survived by his son and |
| 8 |
| daughter-in-law, Tim and Barb Graul; his daughters and |
| 9 |
| sons-in-law, Ginger and Ron Dalton, Barb and Dennis Hammond, |
| 10 |
| and Jeanne Truckey; his grandchildren and their spouses, Ann |
| 11 |
| Graul and Eduardo Valencia, Eric and Erika Graul, Cindy Dalton |
| 12 |
| and Mike Borts, Jeff and Christie Dalton, Christy and Justin |
| 13 |
| Pierce, Laura Hammond, Karen Truckey, and Sarah Truckey; his |
| 14 |
| great-grandchildren, Ines and Oscar Valencia Graul and Amelia |
| 15 |
| and Anders Graul; his sister, Marjorie Howe; his former |
| 16 |
| son-in-law, Bill Truckey; his nieces and nephews; his cousin; |
| 17 |
| and his other extended family and friends; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |
| 19 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 20 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Robert Graul; and be it |
