SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Katherine Figge of Edwardsville, who passed away on June 20, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Figge was born on February 14, 1905, in East St. Louis; she was the daughter of the late Harry and Catherine Hunterbrinker Stanton; she married Walter Figge on February 7, 1932, in Alhambra; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Figge began working at the age of 13 at Schaefer's Department Store in East St. Louis as a cashier; at age 15, she began working at S.S. Kresge's Five and Dime in East St. Louis as a cashier, working there until 1943; along with her husband she owned and operated Figge's Grocery on St. Louis Street in Edwardsville from 1943 to 1968; from 1968 to 1994, she was employed as a bookkeeper at Schwartz Drug Store, and later worked part time at Madison Telephone Company in Hamel; she was a member of the Eden United Church of Christ in Edwardsville; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Figge was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Margaret Hubeli; her brother, Harry Stanton; her nephew, Don Stanton; and her niece, Mary Louise Richards; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Figge is survived by her nieces and nephews, Robert Schwartz and his wife, Sandi, Dr. William Schwartz and his wife, Gay, Rex Aton, Jean Krome, Donna Duncan, Dr. Guy Aton and his wife, Jeanne, Mary Jan Figge, June Stewart, and Mark Figge; her sister-in-law, Jean Figge; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Katherine Figge; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Katherine Figge as an expression of our sympathy.
