HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the staff and 
4
students of Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein on the 
5
occasion of being selected as a No Child Left Behind Blue 
6
Ribbon School for 2007 by the U.S. Department of Education on 
7
October 2, 2007; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, The No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools 
9
Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high 
10
schools that are either academically superior in their states 
11
or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement to 
12
high levels; the program only qualifies schools that score in 
13
the top 10 percent in the nation on nationally-normed 
14
standardized tests and have at least 40 percent of their 
15
students from disadvantaged backgrounds; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, Carmel Catholic High School is the only high 
17
school in Illinois and one of only three Catholic high schools 
18
in the country to be selected as a No Child Left Behind Blue 
19
Ribbon School in 2007; the school has been named a Blue Ribbon 
20
School 4 times; Carmel Catholic is one of only 5 high schools 
21
nationwide to win the Blue Ribbon School award four times, 
22
having achieved this prestigious designation in 1985, 1996, 
23
2002, and 2007; and

    WHEREAS, Carmel Catholic High School will be among the 
2
schools honored at a ceremony in Washington, DC on November 12 
3
and 13, 2007; the school will receive a plaque and a flag that 
4
signifies their No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School status; 
5
and

    WHEREAS, The achievement of such a prestigious education 
7
award makes the staff and students of Carmel Catholic High 
8
School models of academic achievement to the citizens of the 
9
State of Illinois and the United States; therefore, be it

 
10
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
12
congratulate the staff and students of Carmel Catholic High 
13
School in Mundelein on the occasion of being selected as a No 
14
Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School for 2007 and wish them 
15
continued success and happiness in the future; and be it 
16
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18
presented to Carmel Catholic High School principal Robert C. 
19
Carroll as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
