HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to show their support for the Jazz in the Park for Charity event at Governors State University in University Park on July 29, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Jazz in the Park for Charity is a 5 hour event which features a variety of food from local restaurants and live jazz entertainment; Ramsey Lewis' headline performance is being sponsored by Great Lakes Bank; auctions, door prizes, and free food and beverages makes this signature event memorable for its attendees; and

WHEREAS, Jazz in the Park for Charity is a collaborative effort of 13 not-for-profit groups: Girl Scouts of South Cook County, the Governors State University Foundation, Grand Prairie Services, Healing Racism - Chicago Southland, the Homewood Rotary, the Illinois Philharmonic, the Illinois Youth Advocate Program, the Jassac Charitable Foundation, Inc. and Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., JASS Alumnae Chapter, the JESF Foundation of Theta Rho Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the League of Women Voters of the Homewood/Flossmoor Area, the Matteson Rotary, Special Kid's Fund, Inc., the South Suburban Chicago Links, and the Tall Grass Arts Association; these groups are located in Chicago southland communities and profits from the event benefit these groups; and

WHEREAS, Jazz in the Park for Charity draws approximately 1,500 citizens and Governors State University alumni to the GSU lakefront; the event is marketed to the entire Chicagoland area, along with 29,000 GSU alumni spread out across the United States; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we support the Jazz in the Park for Charity event on July 29, 2007 and wish continued good fortune and success in the future to all groups involved.
