| WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of the Village of Frankfort, |
| 3 |
| George C. Sangmeister was actively involved in the development |
| 4 |
| of early Frankfort and was well known and respected for his |
| 5 |
| outstanding leadership; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, He was elected Village Trustee in 1934 and Mayor |
| 7 |
| in 1935, holding that office until 1965; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He and his wife, Rose, owned and operated |
| 9 |
| Sangmeister Electric Sales, an electrical appliance, radio, |
| 10 |
| and television store on Kansas Street, where he became one of |
| 11 |
| the pioneers of television sales in the county; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, George C. Sangmeister also served as President of |
| 13 |
| the Frankfort Fire Department and Frankfort Lions Club; Mayor |
| 14 |
| Sangmeister spearheaded construction of the Village Hall on |
| 15 |
| Kansas Street in 1940, was integral in the creation of the |
| 16 |
| Frankfort Park District and served as General Chairman of the |
| 17 |
| Village's 1955 Centennial Celebration; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, In 1961, George Sangmeister initiated an annual |
| 19 |
| festival known as "Sauerkraut Days" which evolved over the |
| 20 |
| years into the "Frankfort Fall Festival", drawing tens of |
| 21 |
| thousands of visitors to Frankfort every year; during his |
