<reference>720 ILCS 5/24-1</reference><aliasreference>from Ch. 38, par. 24-1</aliasreference><SynopsisText>     Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Provides that it is unlawful to carry or possess a billy on or about one's person, upon any public street, alley, or other public lands within the corporate limits of a city, village or incorporated town, except when an invitee thereon or therein, for the purpose of the display of such weapon or the lawful commerce in weapons, or except when on his land or in his own abode or fixed place of business (rather than to carry or possess a billy with the intent to use the billy unlawfully against another person). Also prohibits the carrying or possession of a billy, pistol, revolver, stun gun, or taser in a building owned or operated by a county government.</SynopsisText><synopsistitle>House Amendment No. 1</synopsistitle>
<SynopsisText>Restores provision that prohibits the carrying or possession of a billy with the intent to use the same unlawfully against another. Also provides that a billy, taser, or firearm may not be carried or possessed in a building owned or operated by a unit of government (rather than a county).</SynopsisText><synopsistitle>House Amendment No. 2</synopsistitle>

Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Provides that a person also commits the offense of unlawful use of weapons when he or she knowingly carries or possesses on or about his or her person while in a building owned or operated by a unit of government any knife, sword, billy club, club, razor, or other weapon or other instrument intended for use as a weapon. Defines "billy or billy club". Provides that a violation is a Class A misdemeanor. Provides exemptions.</SynopsisText><synopsistitle>Senate Committee Amendment No. 1</synopsistitle>
<SynopsisText>Replaces the elements of the offense. Provides that the offense of unlawful use of weapons also consists of carrying or possessing on or about one's person while in a building occupied by a unit of government, a billy club, other weapon of like character, or other instrument of like character intended for use as a weapon.</SynopsisText></synopsis>
