<reference>40 ILCS 5/16-170</reference><aliasreference>from Ch. 108 1/2, par. 16-170</aliasreference><reference>40 ILCS 5/16-181.4 new</reference><aliasreference></aliasreference><SynopsisText>     Amends the Downstate Teachers Article of the Illinois Pension Code. Includes within the powers and duties of the Board of Trustees of the Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois the duty to make one mailing a year on behalf of a nonprofit association of active or retired school employees, for purposes of association membership and research only, to persons identified in information contained in records that are in the custody of the System. Provides that the nonprofit association requesting a mailing shall pay the expenses of the mailing. Effective immediately.</SynopsisText><synopsistitle>House Amendment No. 1</synopsistitle>

<SynopsisText>Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Downstate Teachers Article of the Illinois Pension Code. Provides that the Board of Trustees of the Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois may, on an annual basis, provide annuitants under the Article the option of electing and consenting to receive informational material from any nonprofit association. Provides that to qualify as a nonprofit association, at least 50% of nonprofit association's members must be annuitants of the System. Effective immediately.</SynopsisText></synopsis>
