| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Shawn D. Davis on June 4, |
| 4 |
| 2006; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Shawn was born on July 17, 1972, in Chicago |
| 6 |
| Heights to Delois Davis and Marcus Peace; he gave his life to |
| 7 |
| Christ at an early age at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist |
| 8 |
| church and later in life, he found an inner peace; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Big Shawn", he began his |
| 10 |
| education at Lexington Elementary; he went on to attend Proviso |
| 11 |
| East High School, where he attained his high school diploma and |
| 12 |
| cultivated his love for football; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, His athleticism has been nationally recognized |
| 14 |
| and is accompanied by All State honors; he set records as a |
| 15 |
| receiver that are yet to be broken; his records and athletic |
| 16 |
| ability made him one of the best tight ends at Proviso East |
| 17 |
| High school; he received numerous athletic scholarship offers |
| 18 |
| to join the rosters of several Big 10 universities; and |
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, He grew up across the street from the Lightford |
| 20 |
| household and was one of the nicest and most gentle persons |
| 21 |
| anyone could ever encounter in life; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, He was a "Big Brother" and mentor to many young |
| 23 |
| men in the neighborhood, including Senator Kimberly A. |
| 24 |
| Lightford's brother, Melvin "Nankey", and was always ready and |
| 25 |
| willing to have a brotherly conversation with any of them when |
| 26 |
| the need arose; and
|
| 27 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Davis had an entrepreneurial spirit and |
| 28 |
| enjoyed traveling, sports, and being surrounded by his closest |
| 29 |
| friends; and
|
