| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with regret of the death of William A. Groves of Peoria |
| 4 |
| on Friday, July 29, 2005; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on June 8, 1916, in Peoria to William |
| 6 |
| and Gertrude Slater Groves; he married Elizabeth Raistrick on |
| 7 |
| June 10, 1951, in Peoria; she preceded him in death on January |
| 8 |
| 21, 2005; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He valiantly served his country as a member of the |
| 10 |
| U.S. Army during World War II; he held the rank of master |
| 11 |
| sergeant, serving over four years in the Asia-Pacific Theater; |
| 12 |
| he served in the Solomon Islands and the Ryukyu and Okinawa |
| 13 |
| Islands; he was a member of American Legion Post 2; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Groves was a sales manager for Bork Auto Parts |
| 15 |
| and Machine Co. in Peoria for 44 years; he retired in the |
| 16 |
| mid-1980s; he was a member of Illinois Masonic Lodge 263; |
| 17 |
| Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; and Mohammed Temple |
| 18 |
| Shrine; he was active in the Peoria Boy Scouts and attended |
| 19 |
| Second Baptist Church in Peoria; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of William A. Groves has been deeply |
| 21 |
| felt by many, especially his daughter, Marilyn (and Don) |
| 22 |
| Magiera; his son, Bill (and Kathy); and his four grandchildren; |
| 23 |
| in addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by one |
| 24 |
| sister and one grandson; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
| 26 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 27 |
| William A. Groves, and we extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 28 |
| family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 29 |
