| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Rizk S. Alwan of Peoria on |
| 4 |
| Friday, December 23, 2005; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on May 31, 1921, in Itoo, Lebanon, to |
| 6 |
| Simon and Labeba Alwan; he married Laurice Alwan on August 21, |
| 7 |
| 1950, in Peoria; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He was owner and operator of Alwans Plaza grocery |
| 9 |
| store on McBean Street in Peoria; he later went on to be |
| 10 |
| co-owner and operator of Famous Recipe Fried Chicken; most |
| 11 |
| recently, he was a consultant for the Community Action Agency; |
| 12 |
| and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, He was an active member of St. Sharbel Maronite |
| 14 |
| Catholic Church; he was a leader with the Maronite Christian |
| 15 |
| Formation and contributed to its writings and teachings; he was |
| 16 |
| a member of St. Sharbel Men's Club and the Order of St. |
| 17 |
| Sharbel; he was a recipient of the Apostolic Maronite Silver |
| 18 |
| Masabki Award for his service and leadership; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Alwan was known to donate food for the poor; |
| 20 |
| he was known as God's servant in the church, and his wisdom, |
| 21 |
| strength, and faith helped him keep the traditions of the |
| 22 |
| church alive; he was a great believer of St. Sharbel; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Rizk Alwan has been deeply felt by |
| 24 |
| many, especially his wife, Laurice; his daughter, Kathy (Bob) |
| 25 |
| Couri; his grandchildren, Brian and Kristina; his brother, Tony |
| 26 |
| Alwan; and his sister, Mahab Khattar; he was preceded in death |
| 27 |
| by his parents; his son, Simon Alwan; his daughter, Denise |
| 28 |
| Alwan; his three brothers; and his two sisters; therefore, be |
| 29 |
