SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Carroll A. Johnson of Rushville on Thursday, December 15, 2005; and

WHEREAS, He was born on February 11, 1925, in Huntsville Township to Ira "Bert" and Ethel Phelps Johnson; he married Betty McCutchan in 1961 in Plymouth; and

WHEREAS, He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946 as an electrical mate second class on the USS Roi; he was awarded the victory medal; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson graduated from Plymouth High School in 1942, attended Gem City College in Quincy, and received a bachelor's degree in math and science from Western Illinois University in 1951 and a master's degree in administration in 1964; and

WHEREAS, He was a farmer, raised hogs, and owned Johnson Bros. Trucking in Plymouth for several years; he taught math and physics at Rushville High School from 1951 to 1966, was principal of Rushville High School, and was assistant superintendent in 1967 and superintendent from 1967 until his retirement in 1990; he then served as interim superintendent with the Plymouth School District and a consultant with Consulting and Research Group; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rushville, where served as a trustee, usher, and on the parsonage committee; the Plymouth American Legion Post 912; the Western Administrative Round Table; Phi Kappa Delta fraternity; the Educational League of Illinois; the Illinois Association of School Administrators; the Illinois Principals Association; the West Central Illinois Special Education Cooperative; and the Schuyler-Brown Retired Teacher's Association; he was an organizing member of the Schuyler County Education Foundation, a lifetime member of the Western Illinois University Alumni Association, past president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Rushville Rotary Club, Smiles Day Committee, and Corridor 67 Committee; he was treasurer of the Culbertson Memorial Hospital Board and member of the Culbertson Memorial Hospital Foundation; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Carroll A. Johnson has been deeply felt by many, especially wife, Betty; his daughter, Carol (husband, Loren); his son, Garry Johnson; his granddaughter, Ali Wilson; his niece; and his many great-nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Carroll A. Johnson, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
