| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of M. Dean Whitfield Sr. of |
| 4 |
| Sun City, Huntley, and formerly of Glenview, on Tuesday, |
| 5 |
| January 18, 2005; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on January 5, 1929, in Altoona, |
| 7 |
| Pennsylvania, to James H. and Lillian (Cutshall) Whitfield; he |
| 8 |
| grew up in Lakemont, Pennsylvania, and graduated from |
| 9 |
| Hollidaysburg High School in 1946; he graduated from Franklin & |
| 10 |
| Marshall College in 1950 and worked as an assistant secretary |
| 11 |
| for the Altoona Chamber of Commerce from 1950 to 1952 and as |
| 12 |
| president of the Blair Chemical Co. in Altoona until 1955; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, He relocated and worked with Townsend Co. in |
| 14 |
| Chicago until 1960, when he founded Whitfield Associates Inc., |
| 15 |
| a manufacturer's representatives sales agency, where he |
| 16 |
| retired in 2000; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Whitfield was elected to serve as Glenview |
| 18 |
| Park District Commissioner in 1961 and served 21 years on the |
| 19 |
| board; he was active in the Glenview Little League, Boy Scouts, |
| 20 |
| Junior Football, Glenbrook South Parents' Club, and the |
| 21 |
| Northfield Township Republican Organization; he also served as |
| 22 |
| a Deacon at the Winnetka Bible Church and on the Palau |
| 23 |
| Evangelistic Association and Share International Boards; and
|
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, In 1999, he moved to Huntley, where he founded the |
| 25 |
| Sun City Civic Committee, served as president for three years, |
| 26 |
| and was a member of the SonShine Boys and Fox Valley Church; |
| 27 |
| and
|
| 28 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of M. Dean Whitfield Sr. has been |
| 29 |
| deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Shirley (Fowkes); his |
| 30 |
| children, Dean (Susan Vokaty), Susan (Harry Schonau), Mark |
