| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | ||||||
| 3 | learned with sadness of the death of David G. Johnson of | ||||||
| 4 | Romeoville, and a former Hinsdale village trustee, on April 1, | ||||||
| 5 | 2005; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson was born and raised in Franklin, | ||||||
| 7 | Indiana; he left high school to join the Marine Corps Artillery | ||||||
| 8 | Unit and served in the Pacific campaigns and in China
during | ||||||
| 9 | World War II; he was extremely proud of his service in the | ||||||
| 10 | Marine Corps; he always felt it was an obligation to serve your | ||||||
| 11 | country, if not in the military, then in some capacity; he | ||||||
| 12 | passed that all along to everyone in the family; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, He moved to La Grange after his discharge and | ||||||
| 14 | completed his high school education at Lyons Township Junior | ||||||
| 15 | College; in 1946, he married his high school sweetheart, | ||||||
| 16 | Barbara, and they moved briefly to Western Springs before | ||||||
| 17 | settling in Hinsdale in the late 1940s; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, From 1948 to 1953, he worked full time for | ||||||
| 19 | Illinois Bell, part-time with Montgomery Ward, and attended | ||||||
| 20 | DePaul University; he retired in 1981 from Illinois Bell as | ||||||
| 21 | executive information supervisor and went into public-opinion | ||||||
| 22 | research at Data Que International as vice-president of | ||||||
| 23 | information resource planning; soon thereafter, he opened | ||||||
| 24 | David G. Johnson and Associates from 1983 to 1985; and
| ||||||
| 25 | WHEREAS, When his wife was stricken with polio in 1954, he | ||||||
| 26 | relied heavily on the March of Dimes, and after his wife | ||||||
| 27 | recovered, he did not forget their generosity and emotional | ||||||
| 28 | support and devoted a large amount of time to the organization | ||||||
| 29 | and served as chairman of the DuPage County March of Dimes from | ||||||
| 30 | 1956 to 1959; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, His commitment to the community spread beyond the | ||||||
| 2 | March of Dimes; from 1959 to 1963, he was a member of the | ||||||
| 3 | Hinsdale Planning Commission; in 1968, he took on a two-year | ||||||
| 4 | term as a member of the Hinsdale Park and Recreation Committee; | ||||||
| 5 | he was elected to the Hinsdale Village Board in 1971 and served | ||||||
| 6 | for four years; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, He then became a member of the Hinsdale Fire and | ||||||
| 8 | Police Commission and was the chairman from 1976 to 1981; | ||||||
| 9 | during that time, he also served on the Hinsdale Foundation; | ||||||
| 10 | and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson was also the former president of the | ||||||
| 12 | Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce and Hinsdale Rotary Club; he was | ||||||
| 13 | the former chairman of the Hinsdale Junior Achievement Center; | ||||||
| 14 | he was also heavily involved in the Boy Scout organization and | ||||||
| 15 | was selected scoutmaster for the National Scout Jamboree in | ||||||
| 16 | 1969; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, After decades of working and commuting to downtown | ||||||
| 18 | Chicago, Mr. Johnson retired to Mountain Home, Arkansas, in | ||||||
| 19 | 1985; he and his wife later moved to Beason, but settled in | ||||||
| 20 | Romeoville in 2001; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, The passing of David G. Johnson is felt by all who | ||||||
| 22 | knew and loved him, especially his wife, Barbara; his sons, | ||||||
| 23 | Jerry, Jeff, and Jay; his daughters, Katherine Busch and Chris | ||||||
| 24 | Johnson; his brother, Richard; and his 11 grandchildren and 11 | ||||||
| 25 | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 26 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 27 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 28 | David G. Johnson and extend our sincerest condolences to his | ||||||
| 29 | family, friends, and community; and be it further
| ||||||
| 30 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | presented to his family as an expression of our deepest | ||||||
| 2 | sympathy.
