| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of Catherine A. Hawks of |
| 4 |
| Geneva on March 11, 2005; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Hawks was born June 5, 1915, on the Holter |
| 6 |
| family farm near Batavia, the daughter of George and Mary |
| 7 |
| Holter; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, She grew up in Batavia and graduated from Batavia |
| 9 |
| High School in 1934; on June 12, 1937, she married William |
| 10 |
| Hawks and they began a life of farming together on the Holter |
| 11 |
| family farm, which would later become Fermilab; after raising |
| 12 |
| their four children, she took a job at the Mill Race Inn in |
| 13 |
| Geneva; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church |
| 15 |
| and, in later years, she became a member of St. Gall Church in |
| 16 |
| Elburn; she was also a member of the Catholic Daughters for |
| 17 |
| over 50 years; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Hawks was larger than life and she dedicated |
| 19 |
| herself to everything she did; prayer was an important part of |
| 20 |
| her life and her steadfast faith and her devotion to her church |
| 21 |
| saw her through a lifetime of triumphs and tragedies; she spent |
| 22 |
| many hours reading cookbooks, she had a large and varied Hummel |
| 23 |
| collection, she loved to wear hats, and she never met a suit or |
| 24 |
| a pair of shoes she didn't like; above all, it was her family |
| 25 |
| that was most important; and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, William; |
| 27 |
| one sister, Evelyn Kramer; and one son-in-law, Ray Marmo; and
|
| 28 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Catherine A. Hawks is felt by all |
| 29 |
| who knew and loved her, especially her children, Richard |
