HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Evelyn Orietha Martin, who recently passed away; and

WHEREAS, Evelyn Martin was born on July 8, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois; her family joined the New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where she was baptized at the age of 11; together with her sisters they formed the group The Martin Sisters, and ministered in music both in the suburbs and the city of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, In 1981 she married Vincent Pitts and together they had a son, Matthew; Evelyn worked all her life, from working as teller, Personal Banker, and the Manager of Personal Banking at the First National Bank of Blue Island; she later advanced to Certified Senior Mortgage Loan Officer at Conseco Finance, America's Money Line, Centex Home Equity, and as a consultant for Blaine Bradford Ltd.; and

WHEREAS, Evelyn was the head of finance for the Martin and Turk Crittiden family reunions; she specialized in birthdays, banquets, and coordinating weddings; and

WHEREAS, Evelyn was joined with the Jackson Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, under the pastorate of her father-in-law, Superintendent Harold L. Pitts, and the Christian Life Center, under the pastorate of Senior Pastor Jerry McQuary ; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Evelyn Martin will be deeply felt by those she leaves behind, including: her husband, Vincent; her son, Matthew; her parents, Jimmie and Elizabeth Martin; her brother, Donald Martin; her sisters, Beverly Anderson and her husband, Maurice, Carolyn Hollins, Orilla Stokes and her husband, Tobin, and Angela Martin; her father-in-law, Superintendent Harold Pitts; her brothers-in-law, Pastor Thaddeus Pitts and his wife, Lottie Nell, Pastor John Pitts and his wife, Beverly, and Elder Devan Pitts and his wife, Rita; her sisters-in-law, Venise Samuels and her husband, Ray, and Yvette Wilson and her husband, Jerome; her great aunt, Mother Evelyn O. Ford; her special parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Young; her godchild, Monica Pitts; and her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, special friends, and her dog, Precious; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the death of Evelyn Orietha Martin; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Evelyn Martin.
