HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Mayor George Van Dusen of the Village of Skokie has enjoyed a distinguished career as a public servant; he has served as Mayor of the Village of Skokie since 1999; before serving as Mayor, he served as a Village Trustee and as Assistant Supervisor of Niles Township; he also served as Legislative Assistant and Director of Suburban Operations for U.S. Congressman Sidney R. Yates; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Van Dusen has been a resident of Skokie for more than 25 years; he is an active member of his community and is involved with a multitude of community organizations, including the United Way of Skokie Valley, Temple Judea Mizpah, Skokie Indians Little League, and the Highland School PTA; he is also a member of the adjunct faculty at Oakton Community College, where he teaches American and European history and American government; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Van Dusen is an active member of the Northwest Municipal Conference, addressing the needs and issues confronting the Village of Skokie and the northwest region of the State; he serves as a member of both the Conference's Executive and Legislative Committees and has worked tirelessly on issues related to telecommunications, E-911, tax increment financing, household hazardous waste disposal, and transfer taxes; he serves as Chairman of the Board of the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County and worked to implement the Village of Skokie's comprehensive recycling program, which has served as a model for many other communities; he is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Chicago Transportation Study and Co-Chair of the North Shore Council of Mayors; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Van Dusen has played a leading role in the development of the Illinois Science and Technology Park, which will benefit the entire State by directly providing over 3,000 jobs and by creating an additional 14,000 jobs and an estimated $1.8 billion in economic activity; his effort to support the biotechnology industry in Illinois will mean more jobs, wealth, and excitement for the State of Illinois and will help put Illinois at the forefront of an industry attempting to defeat disease and malnutrition worldwide; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we celebrate Mayor George Van Dusen's exceptional dedication to the well-being of his community and his efforts to make Illinois a leader in the field of biotechnology; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mayor George Van Dusen of the Village of Skokie as an expression of our respect and esteem.
