| 1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1133

| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1133 by replacing | ||||||
| 3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

| 4 | "Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by | ||||||
| 5 | adding Section 5-25 as follows: | ||||||
| 6 | (305 ILCS 5/5-25 new) | ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 5-25. Pediatric asthma initiative. During fiscal year | ||||||
| 8 | 2006, the Department of Public Aid shall evaluate current | ||||||
| 9 | standards of treatment of asthma for its beneficiaries. The | ||||||
| 10 | review may include state-of-the-art programs in asthma disease | ||||||
| 11 | management as well as evidence-based best practices for the | ||||||
| 12 | early diagnosis, treatment, and control of asthma, | ||||||
| 13 | particularly in children. The Department's review may include | ||||||
| 14 | asthma disease management as one component of a comprehensive | ||||||
| 15 | disease management model. The Department shall consult with the | ||||||
| 16 | Department of Public Health and other State agencies, | ||||||
| 17 | advocates, and providers in conducting this review. The | ||||||
| 18 | Department's review shall also seek to maximize collaborations | ||||||
| 19 | between existing asthma programs in the State of Illinois. The | ||||||
| 20 | review shall also assess the available methods of implementing | ||||||
| 21 | and funding asthma disease management and treatment within the | ||||||
| 22 | Medicaid program.

| 23 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon | ||||||
