| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Lee Raymond Schar of |
| 4 |
| Whitefish, Montana, formerly of Chicago, on Tuesday, June 15, |
| 5 |
| 2004; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Schar was born on January 13, 1945, to Wallace |
| 7 |
| and Fern Schar of Naperville; he grew up in Berkeley and |
| 8 |
| attended Proviso West High School; he attended the University |
| 9 |
| of Illinois, where he graduated in 1968 with a psychology major |
| 10 |
| and a minor in human factor engineering; he married Joyce G. |
| 11 |
| Corry a year later; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, After spending time as a school teacher, Mr. Schar |
| 13 |
| began working as a Secret Service agent in 1974, moving to |
| 14 |
| Washington, D.C., in 1980; he worked on the security details of |
| 15 |
| Vice President Walter Mondale and President George H.W. Bush; |
| 16 |
| and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Schar returned to Chicago after 8 years to |
| 18 |
| head the counterfeit and fraud divisions; he retired briefly in |
| 19 |
| 2000 after 26 years with the Secret Service, pursuing his dream |
| 20 |
| of living in the west and building a mountain home; following |
| 21 |
| the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, he endured testing |
| 22 |
| to become a supervisor for federal air marshals in Seattle as |
| 23 |
| part of the Homeland Security initiative; and
|
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Schar was a loyal Chicago Cubs and Bears fan; |
| 25 |
| and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Lee Raymond Schar has been deeply |
| 27 |
| felt by many, especially his wife, Joyce; his children, Kristin |
| 28 |
| and Katherine Schar and Jenny (Seth) Hutt; his parents, Fern |
| 29 |
| and Wallace Schar; his brothers, James (Jan) and Keith (Beth) |
| 30 |
| Schar; and his many nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be |
