| WHEREAS, Wheaton Bible Church, at Main Street and Franklin |
| 3 |
| in Wheaton, will celebrate its 75th anniversary on the weekend |
| 4 |
| of September 24 through 26, 2004; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, In 1929, Wheaton Bible Church was founded as an |
| 6 |
| interdenominational church on the campus of Wheaton College; in |
| 7 |
| 1936, the 200 parishioners moved into their first church |
| 8 |
| building at Cross and Union Streets on the southeast corner of |
| 9 |
| the lot where the present sanctuary stands; over the next 20 |
| 10 |
| years, the church
built an additional educational building and |
| 11 |
| purchased additional lots; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, In 1958, the church began construction of the |
| 13 |
| current sanctuary, which sits on the northeast corner of the |
| 14 |
| block and seats approximately 1100 people; in 1981, all |
| 15 |
| facilities on the main campus, with the exception of the |
| 16 |
| sanctuary, were razed to allow construction of a new |
| 17 |
| educational wing, including classrooms, a chapel, an atrium, |
| 18 |
| meeting rooms, and a gym; in 1987, the church purchased a |
| 19 |
| facility located south of the main campus which is used by |
| 20 |
| approximately 600 junior high, senior high and college students |
| 21 |
| on Sundays and throughout the week; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, Over 2400 people from all parts of DuPage County |
| 23 |
| worship in four Sunday services, and the church also offers a |
| 24 |
| variety of worship services and educational activities for |
| 25 |
| children and adults; and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, The church meets the diverse needs of its members |
| 27 |
| and the communities it serves in many ways, including Hispanic, |
| 28 |
| Men's, Women's, and Singles' Ministries, Stephen Ministry, |
| 29 |
| support groups, Student Ministries, nurseries, Sunday School, |
| 30 |
| Children's Choir, Awana Club, "The Herd" and "Student Body" for |
| 31 |
| junior high and high school students, special events, community |
