HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Wheaton Bible Church, at Main Street and Franklin in Wheaton, will celebrate its 75th anniversary on the weekend of September 24 through 26, 2004; and

WHEREAS, In 1929, Wheaton Bible Church was founded as an interdenominational church on the campus of Wheaton College; in 1936, the 200 parishioners moved into their first church building at Cross and Union Streets on the southeast corner of the lot where the present sanctuary stands; over the next 20 years, the church built an additional educational building and purchased additional lots; and

WHEREAS, In 1958, the church began construction of the current sanctuary, which sits on the northeast corner of the block and seats approximately 1100 people; in 1981, all facilities on the main campus, with the exception of the sanctuary, were razed to allow construction of a new educational wing, including classrooms, a chapel, an atrium, meeting rooms, and a gym; in 1987, the church purchased a facility located south of the main campus which is used by approximately 600 junior high, senior high and college students on Sundays and throughout the week; and

WHEREAS, Over 2400 people from all parts of DuPage County worship in four Sunday services, and the church also offers a variety of worship services and educational activities for children and adults; and

WHEREAS, The church meets the diverse needs of its members and the communities it serves in many ways, including Hispanic, Men's, Women's, and Singles' Ministries, Stephen Ministry, support groups, Student Ministries, nurseries, Sunday School, Children's Choir, Awana Club, "The Herd" and "Student Body" for junior high and high school students, special events, community service, and contributions to ministries and relief efforts around the world; and

WHEREAS, Wheaton Bible Church plans to move to a new site that will enable the church to expand to meet the growing needs of DuPage County; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Wheaton Bible Church on the occasion of its 75th anniversary and we convey our appreciation for its invaluable contributions to the diverse communities it serves; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Wheaton Bible Church with our best wishes on this historic occasion.
