| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
|
| 3 |
| State of Illinois would like to thank the organizers,
|
| 4 |
| volunteers, and participants of the first ever Salem Relay for
|
| 5 |
| Life for their hard work and contributions to the event; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Relay for Life is an annual fundraiser for the
|
| 7 |
| American Cancer Society;
between 2,800 and 3,000 new cancer
|
| 8 |
| cases are diagnosed in Southern Illinois every year and about
|
| 9 |
| 1,200 people die from cancer each year; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, The event coordinators had hoped to reach $50,000 |
| 11 |
| with Salem's first Relay for Life, and they surpassed their |
| 12 |
| goal, taking in $53,102 for the charity; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, This year's Relay for Life consisted of 25 teams |
| 14 |
| and 167 cancer survivors; therefore, be it
|
| 15 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 16 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
|
| 17 |
| recognize and thank the efforts of the Salem community who |
| 18 |
| helped make the first ever Salem Relay for Life such a success; |
| 19 |
| and be it further
|
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, That we extend our heartiest thanks to the
|
| 21 |
| volunteers, victims, and cancer survivors for their work on |
| 22 |
| behalf of cancer research and awareness; and be it further
|
| 23 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
|
| 24 |
| presented to Salem Relay for Life committee members as an
|
| 25 |
| expression of our sincere gratitude and respect.
