SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
815 ILCS 505/2MMMM new

    Amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. Provides that a business that ships or delivers goods that the business knows or should know are addressed to or intended for receipt by a minor shall, upon request, disclose to the minor's parent or guardian: (1) the name of the person who placed the order for the shipment or delivery; and (2) a general description of the contents of the shipment or delivery. Provides that the disclosure shall be made within a reasonable time after the request is received by the business. Provides that nothing requires a business to disclose information prohibited from disclosure under State or federal law. Provides that a violation of the provision constitutes an unlawful practice within the meaning of this Act.

1    AN ACT concerning business.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business
5Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2MMMM as follows:
 
6    (815 ILCS 505/2MMMM new)
7    Sec. 2MMMM. Shipment or delivery of goods to minors.
8    (a) A business that ships or delivers goods that the
9business knows or should know are addressed to or intended for
10receipt by a minor shall, upon request, disclose to the
11minor's parent or guardian:
12        (1) the name of the person who placed the order for the
13    shipment or delivery; and
14        (2) a general description of the contents of the
15    shipment or delivery.
16    (b) The disclosure required under subsection (a) shall be
17made within a reasonable time after the request is received by
18the business.
19    (c) Nothing in this Section requires a business to
20disclose information prohibited from disclosure under State or
21federal law.
22    (d) A violation of this Section constitutes an unlawful
23practice within the meaning of this Act.
