HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to celebrate the athletes, coaches, and 
4staff members of the Team Illinois delegation who will proudly 
5compete at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minneapolis, 
6Minnesota; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Special Olympics USA Games will be held from 
8June 20 to June 26, 2026 and will be one of the nation's 
9largest and most inclusive sporting events, uniting more than 
103,000 athletes, 1,500 coaches, 10,000 volunteers, and an 
11expected 75,000 fans from across all 50 states through the 
12transformative power of sport; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Among the participants of the Special Olympics 
14USA Games will be 80 proud representatives of Team Illinois, 
15including 43 athletes, 11 Unified partners, 14 coaches, three 
16youth leaders, and nine staff, competing for gold in eight 
17sports, including athletics, bocce, bowling, gymnastics, 
18powerlifting, swimming, Unified basketball, and Unified 
19volleyball, while providing youth leadership experiences; and
 
20    WHEREAS, These Team Illinois athletes showcase exceptional 
21talent and determination, achieving inspiring results and 
22demonstrating the power of preparation and unity in obtaining

1success; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The contributions of these Team Illinois 
3athletes, coaches, and other representatives are a testament 
4to their dedication and passion and the power of the Special 
5Olympics movement to uplift individuals and communities; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The accomplishments of the remarkable individuals 
7of Team Illinois bring pride to our State and illustrate the 
8life-changing impact of the Special Olympics movement, 
9fostering inclusion, dignity, and opportunity for people with 
10intellectual disabilities; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
12HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we congratulate the athletes, coaches, and staff members of 
14the Team Illinois delegation as they prepare for the 2026 
15Special Olympics USA Games; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
17presented to Special Olympics Illinois as a symbol of our 
18esteem and respect.
