HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Andrea Smith on being 
4recognized as the American Network of Community Options and 
5Resources (ANCOR) 2025 Illinois Direct Support Professional of 
6the Year; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Andrea Smith of Carbondale has worked at ResCare 
8Community Living since 2017 as a direct support professional 
9(DSP); DSPs work directly with children and adults with 
10intellectual or developmental disabilities to assist them in 
11residing, working, and recreating in communities of their 
12choice; and
 
13    WHEREAS, For over 40 years, ResCare Community Living has 
14provided community living services that help individuals with 
15intellectual and developmental disabilities enjoy greater 
16quality of life in their own home or in home-like 
17environments, providing more than 100 million hours of service 
18for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities 
19each year, including 250,000 medications administered each day 
20in approximately 2,000 residential homes across the country 
21for a behaviorally complex population with multiple chronic 
22conditions and co-morbidities; and

1    WHEREAS, The American Network of Community Options and 
2Resources (ANCOR) is a national advocacy organization with 
3over 2,500 members that serves as a leading voice in 
4Washington, D.C. on behalf of community-based 
5intellectual/developmental disabilities service providers; 
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, In 2025, ANCOR received over 500 nominations for 
8its annual National Direct Support Professional of the Year; 
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, During ANCOR's annual conference held from April 
117 through April 9, 2025 in San Diego California, Andrea Smith 
12was recognized alongside 53 other honorees from states all 
13across the country; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
15HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
16we congratulate Andrea Smith on being recognized as the 
17American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) 
182025 Illinois Direct Support Professional of the Year; and be 
19it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
21presented to Andrea Smith as an expression of our esteem and 
22respect.
