HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Reverend Jesse Louis
4Jackson Sr. on the occasion of his 65th anniversary as a member
5of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson, a native of Greenville, South
7Carolina and a longtime Chicago resident, pledged Omega Psi
8Phi through the Pi Psi Chapter at the University of Illinois
9Urbana-Champaign in the spring of 1960; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson's initiation into Omega Psi Phi
11marked the beginning of a lifetime commitment to the
12fraternity's cardinal principles of manhood, scholarship,
13perseverance, and uplift; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Over the past 65 years, Rev. Jackson has
15exemplified these principles as one of the most enduring and
16impactful civil rights leaders of our time, serving as a top
17aide to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., founding the Rainbow PUSH
18Coalition, advocating for economic and social justice across
19the globe, and twice seeking the presidency of the United
20States; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson has remained a proud and active

1brother of Omega Psi Phi, embodying the fraternity's highest
2ideals while inspiring generations of members and citizens
3alike; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson is an outstanding citizen of
5Illinois whose commitment to service, leadership, and justice
6has left an indelible mark on the State, the nation, and the
7world, and it is fitting and proper to recognize the
8extraordinary milestone of his 65th anniversary and honor his
9life, legacy, and leadership as one of Omega Psi Phi's most
10distinguished sons; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate the Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson Sr. on the
1465th anniversary of his membership in Omega Psi Phi
15Fraternity, Inc., and we commend his decades of visionary
16service to humanity, rooted in the same ideals he embraced as a
17young man of Omega Psi Phi; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Rev. Jackson as an expression of our esteem and
20respect.
