| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Reverend Jesse Louis | ||||||
| 4 | Jackson Sr. on the occasion of his 65th anniversary as a member | ||||||
| 5 | of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson, a native of Greenville, South | ||||||
| 7 | Carolina and a longtime Chicago resident, pledged Omega Psi | ||||||
| 8 | Phi through the Pi Psi Chapter at the University of Illinois | ||||||
| 9 | Urbana-Champaign in the spring of 1960; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson's initiation into Omega Psi Phi | ||||||
| 11 | marked the beginning of a lifetime commitment to the | ||||||
| 12 | fraternity's cardinal principles of manhood, scholarship, | ||||||
| 13 | perseverance, and uplift; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Over the past 65 years, Rev. Jackson has | ||||||
| 15 | exemplified these principles as one of the most enduring and | ||||||
| 16 | impactful civil rights leaders of our time, serving as a top | ||||||
| 17 | aide to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., founding the Rainbow PUSH | ||||||
| 18 | Coalition, advocating for economic and social justice across | ||||||
| 19 | the globe, and twice seeking the presidency of the United | ||||||
| 20 | States; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson has remained a proud and active | ||||||

| 1 | brother of Omega Psi Phi, embodying the fraternity's highest | ||||||
| 2 | ideals while inspiring generations of members and citizens | ||||||
| 3 | alike; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson is an outstanding citizen of | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois whose commitment to service, leadership, and justice | ||||||
| 6 | has left an indelible mark on the State, the nation, and the | ||||||
| 7 | world, and it is fitting and proper to recognize the | ||||||
| 8 | extraordinary milestone of his 65th anniversary and honor his | ||||||
| 9 | life, legacy, and leadership as one of Omega Psi Phi's most | ||||||
| 10 | distinguished sons; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 12 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 13 | we congratulate the Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson Sr. on the | ||||||
| 14 | 65th anniversary of his membership in Omega Psi Phi | ||||||
| 15 | Fraternity, Inc., and we commend his decades of visionary | ||||||
| 16 | service to humanity, rooted in the same ideals he embraced as a | ||||||
| 17 | young man of Omega Psi Phi; and be it further | ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to Rev. Jackson as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 20 | respect. | ||||||
