HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Architecture shapes the character and identity of public spaces, uplifting communities, reflecting shared values, and inspiring pride in government institutions; and

WHEREAS, Public buildings funded by the State of Illinois should be clearly recognizable as civic structures, designed to honor Illinois' rich history, culture, and architectural heritage; and

WHEREAS, Traditional, classical, and other historically rooted architectural styles have long enhanced public spaces, strengthened community identity, and upheld the ideals of democracy; and

WHEREAS, The public has a vested interest in civic architecture, and incorporating community input ensures that designs reflect the aspirations of Illinois residents; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the Administrator of the Capital Development Board, in consultation with the Office of the Governor and other relevant state agencies, to develop recommendations promoting civic buildings that are visually identifiable and respectful of Illinois' regional, traditional, and classical architectural heritage; and be it further

RESOLVED, That these recommendations should propose revisions to architectural guidelines and outline procedures for incorporating public input into design decisions; and be it further

RESOLVED, That if, before submitting these recommendations, the Administrator of the Capital Development Board proposes approving a new building design that does not align with this policy, the Administrator should notify the Governor at least 30 days prior to final approval and provide a justification for the design; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to the Administrator of the Capital Development Board and the Office of the Governor.
