HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Architecture shapes the character and identity of
3public spaces, uplifting communities, reflecting shared
4values, and inspiring pride in government institutions; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Public buildings funded by the State of Illinois
6should be clearly recognizable as civic structures, designed
7to honor Illinois' rich history, culture, and architectural
8heritage; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Traditional, classical, and other historically
10rooted architectural styles have long enhanced public spaces,
11strengthened community identity, and upheld the ideals of
12democracy; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The public has a vested interest in civic
14architecture, and incorporating community input ensures that
15designs reflect the aspirations of Illinois residents;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we urge the Administrator of the Capital Development Board, in
20consultation with the Office of the Governor and other
21relevant state agencies, to develop recommendations promoting

1civic buildings that are visually identifiable and respectful
2of Illinois' regional, traditional, and classical
3architectural heritage; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That these recommendations should propose
5revisions to architectural guidelines and outline procedures
6for incorporating public input into design decisions; and be
7it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That if, before submitting these
9recommendations, the Administrator of the Capital Development
10Board proposes approving a new building design that does not
11align with this policy, the Administrator should notify the
12Governor at least 30 days prior to final approval and provide a
13justification for the design; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
15delivered to the Administrator of the Capital Development
16Board and the Office of the Governor.
