| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the League of Women | ||||||
| 4 | Voters of the La Grange Area on the occasion of the | ||||||
| 5 | organization's 100th anniversary; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, In 1924, the League of Women Voters of the La | ||||||
| 7 | Grange Area (La Grange League) was established at the home of | ||||||
| 8 | Mrs. James Kidston under the name League of Women Voters of La | ||||||
| 9 | Grange; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The La Grange League is a local chapter of the | ||||||
| 11 | League of Women Voters of the United States, which works to | ||||||
| 12 | protect and expand voting rights and to ensure everyone is | ||||||
| 13 | represented in our democracy; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, The League of Women Voters empowers voters and | ||||||
| 15 | defends democracy through advocacy, education, and litigation | ||||||
| 16 | at the local, state, and national levels; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, The La Grange League has educated generations of | ||||||
| 18 | women and men though candidate forums and educational | ||||||
| 19 | programs; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Many members of the La Grange League have served | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | in leadership roles in village government with some going on | ||||||
| 2 | to serve at the state level; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, The La Grange League became the League of Women | ||||||
| 4 | Voters of the La Grange Area in 1995 and is now comprised of | ||||||
| 5 | 120 members from 12 communities who continue to educate, | ||||||
| 6 | advocate, and organize on issues ranging from school finance | ||||||
| 7 | to fair and affordable housing; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The League of Women Voters of the La Grange Area | ||||||
| 9 | celebrated its 100th anniversary on December 9, 2024, | ||||||
| 10 | receiving recognition from the Village of La Grange; | ||||||
| 11 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 13 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 14 | we congratulate the League of Women Voters of the La Grange | ||||||
| 15 | Area for its 100th anniversary of supporting voting rights, | ||||||
| 16 | representative democracy, and fair elections; and be it | ||||||
| 17 | further | ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the League of Women Voters of the La Grange Area | ||||||
| 20 | as a symbol of our respect and esteem. | ||||||
