SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 11

Proposes to amend the Legislature Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that the annual base salary of a member shall be the same as the annual median household income in the State in the first year of a General Assembly as reported by the United States Bureau of the Census. Provides that the General Assembly shall pass no law that increases the base salary of a member of the General Assembly. Provides that the Amendment takes effect upon the conclusion of the 104th General Assembly.

HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of this resolution a proposition to amend Article IV of the Illinois Constitution by changing Sections 11 as follows:

ARTICLE IV

THE LEGISLATURE

(ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 11) SECTION 11. COMPENSATION AND ALLOWANCES

The annual base salary of a member shall be the same as the annual median household income in this State in the first year of a General Assembly as reported by the United States Bureau of the Census. A member shall receive a salary and allowances as provided by law, but changes in the allowances salary of a member shall not take effect during the term for which he has been elected. The General Assembly shall pass no law that increases the base salary of a member of the General Assembly.

SCHEDULE

This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon the conclusion of the 104th General Assembly.
