AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2960

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2960 on page 4,
3immediately below line 10, by inserting the following:
 
4    "Section 10. The Critical Health Problems and
5Comprehensive Health Education Act is amended by adding
6Section 3.2 as follows:
 
7    (105 ILCS 110/3.2 new)
8    Sec. 3.2. Mental health and illness instruction. The
9instruction on mental health and illness under Section 3 shall
10be age and developmentally appropriate and shall be reasonably
11designed to include instruction on: the overarching themes and
12core principles of mental health; defining signs and symptoms
13of common mental health challenges, including, depending
14on student age and developmental level, defining conditions
15such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and post
16traumatic stress disorder, and how to identify warning signs

1of common mental health problems in order to promote awareness
2and early intervention so that students know to take action
3before a situation turns into a crisis; and the connection and
4importance of mental health to overall health and academic
5success and to co-occurring conditions, such as chronic
6physical conditions, chemical dependence, and substance
7abuse.".
