SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gary S. Segal of Rock Island, who passed away on July 24, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Gary Segal, the son of Herman and Sarah Segal, was born in Buffalo, New York on August 23, 1943; he graduated from Rock Island High School in 1961 and the Philadelphia Textile School in 1966; he served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam; he married Randi Richman in Fort Worth, Texas on May 31, 1987; and

WHEREAS, Gary Segal worked at Herman's Inc. in Rock Island for 48 years; and

WHEREAS, Gary Segal was the past president of the Tri-City Jewish Center, a previous board member of the Jewish Federation and the Rock Island Hebrew Cemetery Association, and an active member of the Rock Island High School Class of 1961 Scholarship Fund; and

WHEREAS, Gary Segal was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299 and the Jewish War Veterans; and

WHEREAS, Gary Segal enjoyed swimming, reading, playing racquetball, and visiting national parks; he was an avid Chicago White Sox and Fighting Illini fan; he was proud of having attended two World Series, the 1984 Olympics, the White Sox Fantasy Baseball Camp for seven years, and the first Field of Dreams game with his family; and

WHEREAS, Gary Segal is survived by his wife of 37 years, Randi Segal; his daughters, Sarah (Avi) Levine and Rachel (Jacob Grund) Segal; two grandchildren; his sister, Judi (Donn) Stroud; and many other family members; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gary S. Segal and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gary Segal as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
