SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of James L. "Jim" Hermes of Table Grove, 
4who passed away on July 11, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Hermes, the son of Thomas "Mike" and Margaret 
6(Steen) Hermes, was born in Wilmington on December 29, 1933; 
7he received his undergraduate degree from Illinois State 
8University; he earned his master's degree and a certificate of 
9advance studies from Northern Illinois University; he served 
10as a sergeant E-5 in the security agency of the U.S. Army in 
11Italy; he married Diane F. Smolik in Ingleside on July 7, 1962; 
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jim Hermes was an educator who dedicated his 
14entire career to serving as superintendent of various school 
15districts throughout Illinois; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jim Hermes was a member of St. Paul Catholic 
17Church in Macomb; he was a past member of the board of 
18directors of the McDonough Telephone Cooperative; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Jim Hermes is survived by his wife; his children, 
20Sue (Alex) Calvert, Dyann (Jim) Dailey, James (Angie) Hermes 
21Jr., and Kate (Matt) Ulmer; 11 grandchildren; two

1great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Bill (Sylvia) Hermes 
2and Bonnie (Ken) St. Peter; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
5James L. "Jim" Hermes and extend our sincere condolences to 
6his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to the family of Jim Hermes as an expression of our 
10deepest sympathy.
